Weekend in Stockholm / Viikonloppu Tukholmassa

It has recently become one of our family traditions to enjoy the beautiful atmosphere in Stockholm. This weekend was special for one reason: we were all able to go as a one big happy family. While we drove to Turku we listened to the Balkan songs and sang all together the whole journey. At least it was a good way to test how good speakers our new car had! We visited our cousins in Turku on our way to Stockholm and again while coming back home. To Stockholm we went by the Viking Line's Grace ship. Our breakfast was at 04.30 am and we were really tired in the morning because of the party people on that ship... Tired faces turned into happy ones after the breakfast and we really were like a finish cows that saw outdoors first and the only time in their lives :D.

Lähivuosina meidän perheen perinteeksi on noussut Tukholman ilmapiiristä nautiskelu. :D

After we arrived the first task was to find a nice cafe. It was quite early for any place to be open so we explored the Gamla stan (the old town) and by the time we were ready the clock was already passed 7 am! People came out of their houses and first cafes and shops opened. After a good caffeine shot and another breakfast we got more strength to continue our walk towards the Djurgården. I think we should have taken the step meter with us because at the end of the day we probably had passed 40 kilometers by walking. The atmosphere was so sunny and relaxed and it was really nice to see the sun and get the vitamin D synthesized in skin again. Stockholm really showed the best of it. Cafes, nature and Gamla Stan were special.

We never got bored but hungry-  hell YES! After going back and forth between few restaurants we ended up eating in Barcelona Tapas Bar. Food was delicious and prized well and two tapas per person was enough in achieving that full feeling in your stomach. One big minus was the way they served the food. H got her food first and dad 15 minutes after that. This led to the situation that we had to start eating our food so that it didn't get cold while dad was still hungry. Luckily every store tends to end well and we all left the place satisfied.

In the end the whole day was great. Landscape and passers by made the city special by their energy. We sat in many different cafes and enjoyed our time just by eating, drinking, chatting and looking around us. The last cafe was till one of the cutest. It was located in Gamla stan and we ordered hot chocolate from there. It was that same delicious and rich chocolate drink that is often served in Bosnia, Croatia, the rest of Balkans and Italy. That chocolate taste was a good way to end our day before getting back on ship. The only thing we wanted was to get into the sheets ans sleep. This time sleeping was even possible and we were all pleased with that!

Weekend at Stockholm

I haven't been posting the whole summer. The reason for that is that I just did not have anything to say. Mostly I just slept and worked. It wasn't much of a summer for me, I should say. Luckily I did get some rest when we visited Croatia and Bosnia in the end of August, but more about that trip in another post.

This weekend I went to Stockholm with my parents. It was just a one day trip, but it was still enough to get us on a holiday mood. We walked around the city the whole day, visited gift shops, sat at cute little cafeterias, walked in parks and of course went shopping! It was quite a long day after sleeping only couple of hours the night before, but it was worth it! And the beauty of the city kept us awake.

One good side in Stockholm is that there are lot of people from ex Yugoslavia. In Finland there is not so much of us, and I rarely run into people who speak our language. Actually I never ran into them unless they belong to my family. But in Stockholm we saw lot of people who spoke the same language as we. It was quite funny actually, because we were so not used to hearing other people speak our language that we couldn't help our selves from staring! All I could think was "wow, you are one of us! Did you notice that I am too?" Sounds quite sad actually.

Yesterday we spent the whole day at Ikea and few items ended up in my apartment too. I got few new pillows, a standard lamp, a vase and a new laundry bag (since I am finally getting a washing machine!). I also bought two new picture frames and the new project is to get them filled with something. I already have couple of ideas and I can't wait to get started :).

Ps. I lost the fight against mainstream and  finally joined instagram! You can find me there under a name of eeevij.
